A new year has dawned, and like every year this year you would want to make improvements in certain aspects of your life. A few may want to travel more, some would want to take to take up a new hobby but most would want to improve on their health. Statistics show that in the year 2017 the highest searched phrase was healthy living, this year not surprisingly it was still at the number 1 spot and an increase of 15% in most searched phrase.
The first thing that hits your mind would be ‘ I wanna loose weight’ and ‘ I’m hitting the gym’ . Well it’s a little more complicated than that in fact both of these would account for most prematurely lived resolutions. Bodyweight is contributed by 4 main components ; body fat, muscle mass, water content and bone mass. Now when you say weight what do you mean? You want to loose you body water percentage then slimming center’s would your best choice with wrappings and sauna and other torture tools. Be reminded that body water percentage is vital for cellular metabolism, your daily activity depends on how well hydrated you are. The best part, IT DOESN’T LAST LONG. Physiologically your body wont allow you to go to a fluid deprived state unless you have some medical issue’s like diabetes or an infection. So your cellular water levels would somehow replenish to its physiological state.

Next we have the muscle mass and bone mass which wouldn’t be the ideal choice, as you need both of these for locomotion and daily activity. A loss in muscle mass could be an indicator of insulin resistance which is type 2 diabetes and bone mass loss is also pathological. Both of which could be seen in patients in advanced stages of cancer. So muscle mass and bone mass is something you don’t want to loose and if you have been experiencing sudden weight loss without any physical workout, you might want to see your doctor.
The only thing left in this is your body fat, finally we have come to the star of the topic FAT, yes body fat mass or percentage is what you want to shed AND fats are categorized into 2 types according to location and 2 types according to its function. Understanding them is vital.
There is SUBCUTANEOUS fat and VISCERAL fat, the former being fat that is beneath the cutaneous layer or in lay term ‘fat beneath your skin’ which is mostly accumulated at hips, back, abdomen and under arm. Women have a tendency to have higher subcutaneous fat and body fat in general. Yes women you are allowed to have a little more fat than men. Now subcutaneous fat is relatively easier to get rid of as compared to your VISCERAL fat which is stored around organs, abdomen, chest region and is the cause of many metabolic syndrome’s and diseases when it is over the limit. Note that it is not totally bad as organs need some fat around them as an energy storage supply. Ideal visceral fat is given a range of 1-9% or in some literatures up to 12% of total body fat.
What you loose when you do liposuction – SUBCUTANEOUS fat, which also accumulates after a few months. Why? When you remove fat from a certain space it fills up again, because you have not used fat as fuel but merely as stored energy and you have never thought your body to switch to fat burning hence it just reaccumulates back. Why does fat accumulate and not get used as energy source, because it is the best way to store energy in a compact way. Per gram of fat has more energy stored (kcal) as compared to protein and carbs.

We have come to point out that what you need to get rid of is visceral fat. Now weight that you have always mentioned is this thing VISCERAL fat. If you have googled this then the only answer available is exercise. Its now however proven that exercise doesn’t directly cause weight loss but series of events metabolically and hormonally change when you start exercising regularly.
